Tomato Preserves--Updated

Sweet Mother Mary, do I love this website--Pick Your Own. I have used it so much this year!

I used their recipe for Tomato Preserves. I only had about half the amount of tomatoes their recipe called for, so I halved everything. Next time, I would put the entire box of pectin in, as I felt the texture was a bit runny. Aren't the little half-pint jars adorable??

"Preserves" is just a fancy way of saying "jam." Preserves just refers to the use of pectin as a gelling agent. These preserves are sweet and can be eaten just like jam.

I also had tomato juice left after using the solids for the preserves, so I strained and canned some of that as well. I'm not a big fan of tomato juice, but my husband loves a good tomato beer, so he was happy!

I love that site too. I found it a couple of years ago when I was looking for a canning recipe for spaghetti sauce.

I know this sounds like a silly question, but how do you use Tomato Preserves?

The little jars are precious. I have made lots of gifts in a jar and love making them and decorating them.

This might sound silly but what do you do with tomato preserves

You eat it on toast or bread, just like jam.

My hubby asked me to make tomato jelly, but most recipes were spicy and not sweet.

This recipe is sweet and for some reason, it reminds me of Christmas. Maybe the cloves? At any rate, it is quite tasty!!

Tomato Beer is just beer and tomato juice. My husband loves to drink it in the summertime. My dad also liked to drink it every now and then. He used to let me have little sips when I was a kid. I know--SCANDALOUS!!

If I drink beer, it's usually dark beer (ports and stouts) or I'm golfing and not really needing any tomato juice. heehee

The hubby also likes to drink it with Clamato juice (clam juice and tomato juice mixed together) which you can buy at the store. I think that is double-barf-disgusting!!

Have you ever done anything with green tomatoes?

My dad drinks that clamato crap...they actually sell Bud Light w/ Clamato juice right in the can. EWWWW!

I'm not a fan of beer; I can tolerate Corona w/ lime. And bring on the margaritas...woowoo!
