I finished reading it over Thanksgiving.
And I have to say, "Ummm, okay..." At the risk of being stoned and losing subscribers, I have to admit that I'm really not sure what all the hype is about. It was good, but the absence of suspense from the book was maddening for me, up until almost the end when the tracker came into play. But then, the action was over too quickly.
I'm not the biggest fan of romance novels, so that could be my issue. I like a little romance with my action, not a little action with my romance. I guess I like the romance to be the condiment, not the entree.
So tell me people, should I keep reading? Is there a lot more action in the next three books? I know some of you are huge fans, so help a girl out!

I haven't read them so I can't give you any advice. I have never been a romance novel type person. I like more "substance".
I'm so not the person to advise you on this, as I haven't read any of the series.
I'm a romance-sauce on action-entree kinda chick, too!
I LOVED book 1, then didn't care for book 2, but books 3 and 4 were good. So not sure what to tell you! Sorry I can't help!
I can't help either. Book 1 sucked me in and I loved 2 AND 3. I'm working on book 4 now. I love it too and will be bummed when I am done with the series.
Maybe it's just not for everyone. I know I was that way with the Harry Potter books. I couldn't even get past chapter 1 of the very first book. I tried about 3x!
I would say that these are romance books. And that is the crux of the story. Book 2 made me mad. And sometimes...when you come in on the hype...it's not what you expected it to be :-)
I came in on all the hype a few months ago but loved every book. Once I was done with #1 I was so hooked that I couldn't even think of stopping. I want to tell you to keep going but with what you said about the romance, I am not sure. If I recall right, #2 is not action packed at all until later on either. And #3 and #4 I have to jog my memory.
You will not be stoned but I will say this--if you didn't like the first one there is no way you'll like the second one. The third and fourth are pretty good though! If you don't like romance then you might just stay away! :)
I love Rod Serling!!
so, i never read the book, but i like the movie. good love story, but not so much that i would see it again. and, i def wont' be reading the next book either...wait for the movie!
I'm one of those people who has to finish a series no matter what...so I read all of the books this past week.
I thought they were good. I enjoyed them. They weren't my absolute favorites of all time though. (I don't mind romance so that didn't bother me.)
Good luck choosing what to do!
I haven't read it, either. I am sorry that I suck at this. I'm curious about it, but not about to run out and buy the series (not that I could, anyway...so...yeah), but I might wait a bit until I can get my hands on it in the library or something.
I don't mind romance as long as it is semi-realistic. None of this mushy bullcrap.
It's weird, the blog world is freaking out over these books and the movie. Then I talk to my non-blogger friends and everyone I've talked to hated the movie. They said the book was okay, but the movie was terrible. I haven't seen it or read the book. I think I'll waste my time another way and NOT go with the flow. Oh... I'm such a rebel!
I'm not a romance fan either (ick)...am totally like you: a bit of romance with action is fine, but not vice verse.
I've heard so many people say they loved the first book, but didn't like the second. I didn't love the first book, but I had no problems with the second. I certainly didn't think it was any worse than the first, but that could be that I didn't feel any emotional investment in it, and as whiny teens go, I didn't think she was that bad. In fact, I thought Harry Potter was much worse when he hit that one whiny teen year.
What I like is that Meyer's writing style is very easy to digest, so I pretty much viewed it as "Harlequin Romance with vampires in it" (NOT that I read more than 2 Harlequins in my entire middle-aged life, mind you).
Personally, I thought the plot in the first book was a bit thin and contrived, and the plot in the second just a bit more interesting and intricate. I am going to finish the series, just because I'm curious about where it's going, but I'm waiting to borrow the 3rd book until I'm done working on my own novel.
If you're not at all curious, and don't want any fluffy reading, I would advise you to stop now. But, if you're a fast reader and you're in a need of some light escapist reading, then go for it! :)
There, I've written a novel right here in your comments section. Hahaha!
I got hooked on book 1, thought book 2 started off slow and then it got better with book 3 & 4. So I don't know what to tell you though because I really fell in love with the story and it sounds like it didn't appeal to you as much.
i loved book 1 for some reason, maybe the innocent love?? i drudged through books 2 and 3, did not really like those. book 4 is better, has a lot more twists and turns
ok. I'll admit it. I am a BIG, HUGE fan of these books. but, I'm not a big reader. in fact, I've only finished 8 novels in the past 10 years...and 4 of them were this series. I got hooked after the first, skimmed through the second(which reminds me, I need to go back and re-read this one...crap, there goes my evening), and finished out with 3 and 4. I like the characters, I like the fantasy, I like the CHEESE :)
I definitely won't stone you, though! More of Edward to keep to myself...oh, dear, I am sick.
I really enjoyed the series, but they are considered romance books, so if you aren't into the romance stuff then you probably won't totally dig the rest of the books.
Hype can totally kill books for me! I wasn't totally aware of all the hype when I picked these books up this summer for my daughter.
I look at the series as light and fluffy beach reading material.
I just finished and I thought it all came together in the last book. There was more suspense because she had to bring all those loose ends together and solve all the issues she had created in the other book. I really like them. . . but the movie sucked.
ok...well i wondered and wondered what all the fuss was about. i wasn't going to read it. but my husband wanted to go see the movie (he thought it was going to have vampire action in it...was sorely disappointed) and so i bought the book on our way in. i was disappointed in the movie. i thought it was awful. and when i started reading the book, i was disappointed. but, i decided to keep going. i am currently on the third book. i think they have gotten better as i have continued.
would i read them again and again? probably not. but i'm interested now and want to see where it goes. i am also disappointed that there is a lot of editing problems and that she changed so much about vampires. but...it does get better. in my opinion.
I'm a Janet Evanovich fan - mystery series, some action, a lot of silly humor, and some ongoing relationships that are steamy and intriguing enough to make you want to buy the next book, but not to the point of making you need fans to cool off.
I have no interest in this Twilight series at all - not even curious.
Belle, I LOVE Janet Evanovich. her books are literally laugh out loud funny! can't wait for her next one
I'm not a romance fan either, I prefer a little romance with a lot of suspense. I did get sucked into Twilight though, not sure how or why. I read them all & loved the 4th the most next to the 1st. I was a bit bored with 2 & 3 until about half way. I did love the first though. If you aren't even liking the first, I probably wouldn't bother. They are a bit long.
Oh & I'm another Janet Evanovich fan. Awesome books!
It gets better I promise...
