My First Bloggy Buddy Meetup!

Some of you may know the fabulous Aubrey, from The Fam Five. If you aren't already a reader, get yourself on over there and get a good giggle! I was so excited to get to meet her while I was in Colorado visiting family!

We had a great time talking and laughing while the kids played, although I felt a little bad that she was completely inundated with poop stories. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't take long for my family to start talking poop. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, considering my sister came with me.

Here's a few pics of our fun day! We were having so much fun yakking that I kind of forgot to take pictures!

It's a TWEETZZA!!

Last night, after I made a batch of no-knead pizza dough (recipe at the end of the post), I sent out a tweet looking for topping inspiration. I would pick a winner, make their pizza, and post about it here on my blog. I have dubbed the creation tonight my first Tweetzza!

Thank you all for the great suggestions!! Can I get a drumroll please??

*
*
*

The winning suggestion was Angie's creation!

@oikology101 My fave is artichoke, chicken, and garlic...with the garlic clove and artichoke hearts cut into chunks and scattered around mmm

Angie blogs at Homemaker Chronicles. You can follow her on Twitter here. I met Angie during an iHeartFaces Twitter party. She takes gorgeous photos and has a beautiful family! Please go say hi and congratulate her on a SCRUMPTIOUS TWEETZZA!!!

I peeled and chopped four cloves of garlic, cut the breast and thigh off the rotisserie chicken and chopped it into bite size pieces, and drained and chopped two jars of artichokes into slightly smaller pieces.

I knew I wanted to cook the garlic before I put it on the pizza. Given more time, I would have roasted it. But tonight, I just gave it a quick saute.

I did add one ingredient to her creation--mushrooms. I figured as long as I was going to saute the garlic for a quick second, that I might as well add mushrooms!

Oh, wait! I added a second ingredient (because you know me--I can never leave well enough alone). Fresh Basil! Mostly because I had it and because it's delicious!

In addition, I used 1/2 cup of prepared pizza sauce, 1/2 cup of mozzarella (go light on the cheese to save calories), and a tablespoon of real parmiggiano reggiano grated on the microplane.

So what do you think of my first Tweetza??

The pizza dough recipe was given to me by my friend, Jessica, and I've made just a few modifications. It is super delicious and so EASY!! You just mix it up, let it sit, and that's it! It doesn't have a single bit of fat in it and gives you a big puffy and chewy crust. The recipe makes two pizzas, so you can make a huge pizza for dinner and make another one an entire week later!

You MUST let this dough sit (total time needed to develop is at least 10 hours). The reason it doesn't need any kneading is because the glutens have TIME to develop! Because it can sit up to a week, you can make it and wait a few days to make your pizza(s). I promise that you'll want to have this in your fridge at all times!

No-knead Pizza Crust

1 1/2 Tbs granulated yeast (or 1-1/2 packets)
1 1/2 Tbs kosher salt
1 tsp Italian seasoning
3 Cups Lukewarm Water (NOT HOT)
2 cloves of garlic, minced
6 1/2 cups unsifted, unbleached, all-purpose white flour
Cornmeal for the pizza stone or cookie sheet.
Your choice of toppings (pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni etc.)

In a large plastic bowl with a fitted lid (at least 18 cup capacity--I use my 4.3 litre Tupperware Impressions bowl), mix salt, yeast, and Italian seasoning. Add water and minced garlic; stir. With a stiff spoon, incorporate the flour into the water mixture until well combined.

Place the lid over the bowl, but do not seal (some of the gasses need to escape or the container could burst). Leave out on counter for two hours or until at least doubled. Seal bowl and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.

When you are ready to make your pizza, preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Spray the baking stone or cookie sheet with cooking spray then sprinkle with cornmeal. Your pizza will stick big time if you skip this step.

Sprinkle flour on top of the dough, while it's still in the bowl. Rub your hands with flour to prevent sticking. Take out half of the dough for one pizza. Use a serrated knife if necessary. Put the remaining dough into the refrigerator (covered with the lid). You can keep this for another seven days if you can wait that long to eat more of this delicious pizza!

Drop the dough into a bowl of flour to coat both sides, shaking off the extra. To form the dough ball, roll the dough down and under itself, with a tucking motion. Turn and repeat two or three more times, until you achieve a nice round mound of dough.

Roll or stretch out the dough almost to the edges of the large baking stone or cookie sheet. If your dough resists rolling, let it rest for about 5 minutes and try again. I use my fingers and gently press the dough out to the edges of the cookie sheet.

Spread sauce on pizza. Top with your desired toppings and bake at 450 degrees. Set your timer for 10 minutes and check your pizza. I use the large Pampered Chef baking stone. It took 23 minutes on the bottom rack to cook the pizza to perfection this evening. If you are not using a stone, you will most likely need to place your pizza up higher to avoid burning the bottom of the crust.

Yields two pizza doughs, eight HUGE pieces each. Crust only--3 WW points per piece. To reduce the topping calories, bump up the amount of sauce, use less cheese, and do mostly vegetables and a little (or no) meat. Turkey pepperoni is actually pretty good and only adds a few points to the entire pizza.

Come on! You know you want a bite!!!!

Roll Out the Red Carpet...

This week's guest judge at
is Ree Drummond a.k.a. The Pioneer Woman!! Not only can this woman cook, she is a fantastic photographer, writer, and gorgeous to boot!

I hate you. Okay, not really. But sort of...

Welcome, Ms. Drummond, to Oikology 101!! See how polite I am? I'll let you give me permission to call you Ree and then we'll be BFF's forever, okay??

So even though I have no chance of even placing, here's a rundown of why I will not win and why I might win (if by some miracle crappy photos win).

Reasons why I won't win:
1. I have no idea how to use my camera and it's a P&S. That's sad...
2. I got super lucky and inherited Photoshop 7.0 from my hubby's work, but I have no idea how to use it. I'm plodding through and trying to figure it out, but it's a MASSIVE undertaking!
3. All of my artistic talent lies in my voice. I can barely draw a circle and make it recognizeable, let alone put together beautifully composed photos.
4. When Midget laughs, her entire body spasms (wonder where she gets that from *whistle whistle*) and it is EXTREMELY difficult to get a picture of her!

Reasons why I might win:
1. My rapier wit and wicked sarcasm.
2. Midget is extremely charming and has the most fabulous personality!
3. Did I mention my rapier wit and wicked sarcasm?
4. All professional photographers, amateur photographers, hobbyist photographers, and enthusiast photographers experience internet outages and are unable to post their photos.

Yes, weak reasons to win, especially because I doubt Ms. Drummond will have time to read all eleventy billion links on iHeartFaces and will therefore have no opportunity to experience my wit or sarcasm. Although, she does seem to have superhuman skills, so I guess it's possible!

So, without further ado, Pioneer Woman--meet Midget!

Some Bloggy Love I Don't Deserve

While out on Quilting/Cranberry hiatus, I was bestowed with three awards. THREE awards given to me three weeks ago, people, and I still couldn't get my stuff together to post these! I am quite appreciative of these ladies, I swear! Thank you so much for thinking of me!

This first award was bestowed upon me by Heather at Nobody But Yourself.

As part of this award, I have to tell you things that make me happy.
-My goofy, sweet, adorable, husband, whom I couldn't live without
-The sweet giggles and melt-my-heart smiles of my gorgeous baby girl
-The fact that all four of my siblings and I not only love each other, but we actually like being around each other
-The snuggly stubbornness and wiggly butt walking of my Lucy Wiener
-The excessive licking and innate sweetness of Henry Wiener
-Talking with good friends, whether in person, on the phone, through email, or in that little comment box
-Cooking good food
-The love of my Lord

I could really go on forever, as there are so many things that make me happy!

Now to award a few bloggers who are creative with a capital K!
Christian at Who Would've Thought It, who is so crafty and Margaret from Nanny Goats in Panties who manages to be funny without the cynical bad attitudes of so many other humor bloggers out there.

My BBFF (Best Bloggy Friend Forever) Deanna from Deanna's Corner gave me the next two awards.

Now to award some Superior Scribblers!
Kat from Sunshine and Lemonade, who not only writes extremely well, but gets others to write like no other blogger I've ever seen and Miss Vivian from Conservative Belle. I'm so incrediby jealous of her ability to write so eloquently about politics!

And finally, I'd like to present this award to Bar-b of I Heart 2 Girls who always makes me giggle (if we lived near each other, I know we'd hang out on the deck, guzzling froofy drinks and laughing our butts off while the kids were napping), Teresa R of Life, Homesteading, and Everything, who always says the nicest things and who makes the coolest soaps, and finally to Dr-Wifey, who is the sweetest person and has cats with the coolest names ever!

Ladies, I am so glad I've met you and thank you all for your friendship! Now go visit these ladies and leave them some comment love!

Oh, the CARNAGE!!

I can't believe I'm showing you these, but these pictures show the aftermath of what has come to be known as "Hurricane TiffanyHeather"--the SITS Blog-a-thon--which blew through yesterday! I admit to being a bad SITSa lately! I have not been commenting the way I should have, but I am back on track and back with a vengeance (and with quite a few new blogs to read and comment on--oh crap)!

As I was talking to my husband on the phone about the blog-a-thon and how much fun I had yesterday, he asked me if I was just about done with my blogging phase. Whaaaaat? Excuuuuuuuse me! Oh no he di'int!! Good thing he didn't arrive home from one of his work trips to the following...

This is what the living room looked like when I dragged my weary body to bed, eyes bloodshot, butt-back-wrists-neck aching from sitting in front of my computer most of the day.

These are the dishes waiting to be put in the dishwasher, which has yet to be unloaded. Please note the gigantic stain on the midget's high chair tray. That is what happens when Pasta Fagiouli is left to sit for a few hours on a white porous surface.

And finally, my kitchen table and buffet covered in miscellaneous stuff. My cute harvest decorations are completely overwhelmed by all the junk sitting on the table! And the material for my Blankets of Belief quilt sits heartbroken amongst other piles of junk, just waiting to become what it has always wanted to be when it grows up...

If I wouldn't have had leftovers, I think the midget would have starved to death...

SITS Blog-a-thon!!

A few months ago, I noticed a little leopard print logo on a new blog I'd just started reading. The blog was Deanna's Corner and somehow, I'd stumbled across her blog. After doing a little bit of research this morning, I realized this was the first post of hers I'd ever commented on, and my comment was a doozy!

The strange thing was, she came to my blog and commented on a few of my posts!! Whaaat? I reserved comments for things that were unbelieveable or amazing, but this lady gave her comments freely?? WOW! I went to her blog and commented on her posts and she returned to mine.

A few days later, I clicked on the little leopard print logo I saw on her blog that looked like this:

After visiting The Secret is in the Sauce a few times, and seeing it on other people's blogs, I finally figured out the secret of why Deanna was so generous in her comments!!

Soon, Deanna and I realized that we were sisters separated at birth! Okay, not really, but Deanna and I became SITSas through The Secret is in the Sauce.

Here are just a few of the people I've met through SITS.
Heather
Wep
Mommaof4wife2R
Aubrey
Brandy

So all of you that read my blog, but don't comment--leave me some commenty love so I can come leave some on yours! I'll even share my Secret!

p.s. *hint* It's in the sauce, my bloggy buddies.

Talk To Me Tuesday--My Current Blog Crush

This week, Tip Junkie's Talk to me Tuesday asks the question, "Who is your current blogcrush?" I love all the blogs I read, but I must say, my newest *blogcrush* is on Kendra!

Kendra stopped by my blog and left a comment last time I was featured on Tip Junkie and I popped over to see hers and fell in bloggy love...

Why do I have a total momcrush on her? Take one look at her amazing blog, My Insanity, and you'll see! Not only does the woman look like a model, she makes amazing cakes, decorates her home like a pro, and has a gourmet group she belongs to! Waaaah, I want a gourmet group!

p.s. Kendra, if you are creeped out--blame it on Laurie (Tip Junkie)! She's the reason I am now your blogstalker!!

The Number Four

Two of my bloggy buddies, Wep and Heather, tagged me with this meme. I'm very slow with memes and awards, so don't be surprised if you tag me and it's been days and no response from me. I am just not a "deadline" sort of girl, m'kay?? I thought about adding some pictures to this post to make it lovely, but that would take me another few days.

4 things I did today:
1. Went to church--late--very, very late. But hey, I went! I love our church! If you are looking for a church that is not too formal, yet still very scripture-based, I urge you to visit Vineyard USA and see if there is a Vineyard Church in your community.
2. Booked a room for a resort in Wisconsin Dells next week! What could be more fun than an indoor waterpark in the fall? Although, I'm not looking forward to people's screams when my pasty-white thunder thighs enter the building...
3. Told my husband I thought he was the greatest for going over to mow the neighbor's lawn. The neighbor broke his leg two weeks ago and is still hopping around in a cast. Hubby had to mow our lawn today and decided to mow the neighbor's as well. What a sweet guy, huh?
4. Made an amazing cucumber salad for dinner. I can't take full credit--hubby suggested adding a few more ingredients other than just the cukes and onions. I cut large chunks of 2 cucumbers, 1 large tomato, 1 med onion, and 1/2 green pepper, poured a TON of pickling salt over it (1/3 cup), covered it with water and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. This crisps the cucumbers and takes the bite out of the onions (my Grammie Ella taught me this trick).
Dump out the salted water and lightly rinse the cucumbers and drain again. Then dump in 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1/2 cup half & half, a 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar (I use splenda) and 4 ounces of feta cheese crumbles. Oh, how I loves me some feta cheese!!! Then add pepper to taste and mix. If it is too sharp from the vinegar, try adding a little more sugar, 1/4 teaspoon at a time. If it's too sweet, add more vinegar in tablespoon increments.

4 things on my to do list:
1. Make Tomato Preserves. The tomatoes in my CSA box were not very good, so I needed to do something with them. In fact, not much from my CSA was good this year. I will be finding a new farm next year. Preferably one that gives you vegetables instead of greens all year long. blech. By the way, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. You pay up front to buy a share of a local farm and each week you get a box of vegetables (or greens and corn in my case). To find a CSA near you for next year, check Local Harvest
2. Puree and freeze the pumpkin I roasted last night and roast the pumpkin seeds. Yummmm!!
3. Begin packing for our trip! The midget and I get to travel with her Daddy this week! Hubby has a work trip in Southern IL, so that gets us half-way to Oklahoma City, where my brother and his family live. His midget is six months older than mine, so we're taking them to get their pictures done together! I'm so excited! Then after we spend Sat-Mon there, we are headed to the Wisconsin Dells area! WA-HOOO!
4. Start and finish a sewing project for my niece. Hopefully, I'll finish before we leave on Thursday so I can bring it with instead of mailing it later. I don't have high hopes for this...

4 of my guiltiest pleasures
1. True Blood on HBO. This is a terrible show filled with vampires and lots of s-e-x. I can't believe I like watching such garbage! Maybe the vampires have mesmerized me and that's why I like it. Yeah, that's the ticket! I'm pretty sure I might go to h-e-double-hockey-sticks for watching it.
2. Swedish Fish. These are, hands down, my favorite candy of all time! If I could only pick one kind of candy to eat for the rest of my life, it would be Swedish Fish! I.....love....them....
3. Dancing at clubs. I love to shake my non-existent booty like a mad-woman! The year before I got pregnant, I spent a lot of time in clubs with work friends. Who cares if my belly jiggles and I look like a dork?? It's so fun, I could care less!! If only my husband loved to dance, he'd be the perfect man. But then everyone would want him and I'd have to spend all my time fighting off the adoring women instead of only half the time now.
4. Facebook. Let's just say I spend way too much time on there for my own good. But how fun is it reconnecting with old friends?

4 random facts about me
1. I was voted class clown in high school. Surprising, eh?
2. I drank coffee only occasionally until I got pregnant. Then it was a requirement every day. I had a hard time staying within my 8 oz of caffeine a day because I was SOOOO tired. Now I drink two cups a day. Two very, very large cups.
3. I still have the same email address I had when I first hopped on the internet twelve years ago. I don't plan on ever changing it. EVAH! In fact, I hate it when people switch emails frequently. It drives me bonkers trying to keep up with that!
4. I rarely get involved in anything that I'm not running in a few months. I guess I'm bossy, I'm the bi**h you all love to hate (bonus points for anyone that can name that artist).

4 bloggers I'm tagging
I'm tagging some new bloggy friends I've met recently!

I'm Honored...

One of my favorite SITSa's, Wep of Wep's Ruminations, gave me a sweet award last week.

To translate the award from Portuguese to English, it means, "This blog invests and believes in proximity." Meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' by proxy.

I have really enjoyed making friends through blogging the last few months. I may even get to meet a few of my new bloggy friends in a few months!!

Remember I said I was stingy giving awards? I'm just picking one for this award also, even though it says to give it to eight bloggers. Well, that just ain't how I roll.

My award goes to, brbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbrb (that was a drumroll in case you couldn't tell) to Dr. Wifey! Wifey is funny, witty, honest, and a major Guitar Hero addict! I love reading your (ever-changing) blog!

Tip Junkie's Talk to me Tuesday

Today's TTMT topic on Tip Junkie is "Who or what inspired you to start blogging?" This is an easy one for me!

My sister-in-law was an occasional blogger, but really ramped up her blogging when she found out she was pregnant. She started a pregnancy blog and I was instantly hooked! I loved hearing about her experiences and when I found out I was pregnant six months later, I JUMPED to start my own.

A few months ago, I decided that I wanted to dedicate a blog to things I love, other than my midget. Thus, Oikology 101 was born! I don't exactly remember what started my obsession with the blogs of people I've never met, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of it had to to with Tip Junkie!

Guest Post at Little Window Shoppe

So for some odd reason, Emily from Little Window Shoppe, a tasteful and beautiful blog, asked me to do a guest post about my blueberry jam. I think maybe the marathon she just just ran dried out her brain and affected her judgment, but I'll take advantage of her just this once...

Little Window Shoppe
For those of you who haven't visited yet, you need to go see this site. It's like looking through a Pottery Barn catalogue! She has a blog, an area for DIY submissions, a "shoppetique," which sells adorable handmade items, an area where you can promote your sweet shoppes, and a place dedicated to window art.

I gave her full editing rights and she managed to de-trash my post and made me sound a little less crass! For those of you who are visiting me from LWS, I am occasionally (always) sarcastic and a bit odd, but you'll get used to it. Thanks for visiting!

Go see my post HERE!!!

You Like Me! You Really Like Me!

Can you believe it? *gasp* I have gotten two awards! Actually three, because I just remembered Bar-b gave me one too. Okay, peeps, I swear I'm really thankful, just very forgetful!

First, this award bestowed upon me by Mommaof4wife2r:

I humbly accept this award and would like to dedicate it to the suffering carpet in my living room, without whom, I would never have time to sit on my fat a*% and put my thoughts on paper, er, the screen.

And Bar-b and Momma both gave me this award!!

Thank you, thank you and if you could see me right now, I am blowing kisses to the adoring crowds!

And these are the official blog award rules:

1. The winner can put the logo on his/her blog.
2. Link the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate up to 6 other blogs.
4. Put links of those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of the people you’ve nominated.

Here's my own rule--if you aren't into these awards, don't feel bad if you don't want to put it up! I will understand (after ten years of hating you for snubbing my bloggy love-haha--and of course, I'm kidding) and not be offended. And, I am going to be stingy handing these suckers out because I have high standards. " )

So, for the Brillante award, I would like to bestow this award upon my favorite conservative southern belle--Conservative Belle. This woman is the belle in my happy republican ball! I love that she isn't afraid to tell me off and challenge my thoughts, as all good conservatives should. Viv, you are brilliant!!

Now for the I *heart* your blog award...I have to say, hands down, that Deanna's Corner is one of my very mostest favoritest blogs out there! She was my very first bloggy friend and the one who introduced me to comment crack. I guess she's my blog "pusher!" I truly *heart* Deanna's blog and Deanna too!!

Did You See Me Here??

First, don't forget to enter the GIVEAWAY!!

Did you see my introduction at HappyToBeAtHome.net? Starting on Sunday, I'll be guest-posting about the food I serve in my kitchen. Funny enough, the readers will get a glimpse into one of the busiest weeks of the year in my kitchen. Why, you ask? The hubby came home a few nights ago with a bushel of corn, ten pounds of blueberries, and three GIGANTIC pumpkins. So, in addition to my regular cooking, there will be lots of canning, freezing, jam making and other ridiculously Martha Stewart-ish things going on!

If you came over to my blog from Happytobe@home, a great big welcome to you! I blog about a lot more than food, so be prepared to read lots of blah-bitty-blah-blah!
